Police investigate 'inhumane' treatment of detainees

ITEM: Victoria Police will investigate several employees of detention centre operator GSL over the alleged mistreatment of five immigration detainees...The company has also been fined $500,000 after an independent investigation found the detainees were treated inhumanely while being moved from Victoria's Maribyrnong detention centre to South Australia's Baxter centre in September last year. The investigation conducted by consultant Keith Hamburger found that the detainees were denied food, water and medical treatment, were forced to urinate in their compartments, were denied exercise and had their pleas for help ignored."

Doesn't it make you so darn proud? I mean really proud that the unwelcome mat is creatively applied by our skilled and highly trained staff at the border protection interface to any number of spontaneous opportunities such as this example .

ACT ONE

DETAINEE: Please, sir, I want some more.
GSL: What!
(There was a general start. Horror was depicted on every countenance from front line management to the echelons of federal treasury)
DETAINEE: Please, sir, I didn't get any and, sir, I want to pee.
GSL: Pee!
DETAINEE: Pee, sir. And Kazim wants to do Number Twos.

ACT TWO

IMMIGRATION MINISTER: Compose yourself, GSL, and answer me distinctly. Do I understand that he asked for food and to micturate out of bounds after he had been given ample opportunity to do so in the previous 2 years of his detention?
GSL: He did, sir.
(The Five Detainees were ordered into instant confinement; and a bill was next morning pasted on the outside of the country, offering a reward of fifty dollars to any foreign land which would take these arrogant upstarts off the hands of the nation.)
