Does human nature make socialism impossible?

"Human nature" is a hobby of mine. It's a perennial topic of course and I can't help but rail at those --such as the sociobiologists and evolutionary psychologists -- who seek to sentence us to a social treadmill best summarized by Bill Shakespeare:
  • 'The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves, that we are underlings' —From Julius Caesar (I, ii, 140-141)
