Brisbane: Rally for Justice

Even though you may not be in Brisbane, I want to give readers some feeling for the context of the SA' campaign for Sam Watson in Brisbane:
No to racism and police violence
Stop black deaths in custody
Rally Friday Sept 1, 1pm-3pm, Queens Park (Cnr Elizabeth & George Sts, opp casino)
March at 3pm to Musgrave Park, South Brisbane
Info: Call Sam Watson 0401 227 443

In Novemebr 2004, Cameron Doomadgee (Mulrinji) was arrested on Palm Island for "drunkeness" - one hour later Mulrinji was dead in the police watchhouse, with four broken ribs, a ruptured liver and spleen. Fellow prisoners saw Mulrinji being punched and beaten by senior sergent Chris Hurley - yet police maintain that Mulrinji "fell". Hurley was transferred to a cushy job on the Gold Coast.

The tragedy doesn't end there. Mulrinji's mother has since passed away from the stress, and several weeks ago, Mulrinji's only son, Eric, tragically took his own life, aged just 18 years. Meanwhile, Aboriginal people are facing daily harrassment from police all across Queensland.

This racist abuse and police violence must end. Come to this rally to stand up for justice, to demand an end to black deaths in custody and for racist police to be brought to justice.
