If you like that's my present solution to the recording conundrum. I got mine on eBay after missing a sale price from MiniDisc Australia I now own a SonyMZN-H700.
This little beauty (left). Of course I've got a bit of a learning curve to negotiate but when you do your homework, the Mini Disc has lot going for it as a recording device-- especially Hi MD which means it talks to your computer via the usb port.
I can't speak with confidence yet about its attributes as I have to skill myself up but I hope to employ it as my major recording rig for the upcoming Socialist Alliance conference.
"Tis a fact that when you go audio you get into tech issues big time -- so I've begun to log my tech discoveries and DIY at my workshop pages: The Ratbag Radio Network Workshop. My aim is to come up with a package that I can unconditionally recommend to others so that I can employ them in these podcasting enterprises. What I'm basically talking about is retooling the socialist greenly left and to do that I need to foster audio(& probably video) activists into being.
This is my quest....
This is my Quest---to follow that star, no matter how hopeless, no matter how far,
to fight for the right without question or pause, to be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause!
And I know, if I'll only be true to this glorious Quest,
that my heart will lie peaceful and calm when I'm laid to my rest.
And the world will be better for this---that one man, scorned and covered with scars,
still strove with his last ounce of courage to reach the unreachable star.
And who knows, maybe one day audio activism will come into being big time. If you are perchance wondering what this is all about I have to refer you to the recording I did of the Murinji rally here in Brisbane. Sound quality issues aside -- this is the stuff I'm after. That's what this exercise is all about -- that capturing of the real business of struggle -- its sound, its anger, passion and anguish. And its amazing how far this sort of stuff can be projected and how broad is the take up.
The work I do is not only being taken up by NimFM in Northern NSW but it's also broadcast on Blue Mountains Community Radio in the Katoomba Surf Club - with John Tognolini, Sundays 8pm - 10pm . I didn't expect that -- but there you go.
