UbuntuStudio is go (sort of)

I've been distraated by domastic matters and a bit of computer over hauling. Sort of at least, so my stride has been broken.

However, UbuntuStudio has now been released so the world can get their hot little noisy hands on the wherewithal under an Ubuntu Linux label. But before you get all excited, many of the download sites are down, probably because of demand for the goods. But here is a post that is up to date (or for as long as that lasts).

UbuntuStudio packages the following (but you get to choose what you want-- audio or video or graphics or a combination):
  • Video:
    • PiTiVi - Video editor
    • dvgrab - Grab digital video data via IEEE1394 links
  • Graphics:
    • Blender - A very fast and versatile 3D suite for modeling, animation, rendering, post-production, interactive creation and playback.
    • Gimp – Powerful photo editing application often compared to Adobe Photoshop.
    • Inkscape - A vector-based drawing program similar to Adobe Illustrator.
  • Audio:
  • And much much more…

While I'm still a Linux/Ubuntu newbie I can tell you that navigating through the audio bits and pieces on Ubuntu has not been easy as the extras get very confusing. This setup is, of course, geared to production as the standard Ubuntu setup will suit fine for listening/watching and the like.

If it tweaks your fancy:go here for chat and feedback<>Ubuntu Unleashed -- which has just been published as an ebook here.
